Come to Understand the Development of Kutani-yaki
Kutani-yaki (Kutani porcelain) originated in the Kaga City area during the 17th century. Featuring vivid colours and innovative patterns, this porcelain with overglaze painting is highly rated as one of Ishikawa’s representative crafts.
This is the site of a historic kiln that has been used since Kutani porcelain production restarted in the late Edo era (1603-1868). In addition to displaying the remains of a climbing kiln that was used for over a century, the museum also features a new climbing kiln built to replace the old one. Visitors can enjoy a pottery wheel experience or ceramic painting experience under guidance from a local craftsman in a wonderful and authentic traditional atmosphere.
