Catch a Glimpse of Rural Life

Tucked in the mountains in the southeast part of the Kaga City area, Higashitani Area consists of four villages; Aratani, Imadachi, Suginomizu and Ozuchi. The reddish tiles and chimneys are renowned features of Higashitani’s rustic townscape. These traditional houses have not changed much during the past century, preserving the quiet and beautiful scenery of the mountain village. Designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, a visit here is a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of traditional, Japanese, mountain life.
