Dedicated to a Samurai Who Revived Yamanaka Onsen
Located on the bustling main street (Yuge Kaido Street), Hasebe Shrine is dedicated to HASEBE Nobutsura, a military commander, who is closely linked to Yamanaka Onsen’s revival. Although the hot spring was discovered here during the Nara era (710-794), it fell into ruin for a period of time due to local conflicts. At the end of the Heian era (794-1185), HASEBE Nobutsura rediscovered the source of spring water and laid the basis for today's Yamanaka Onsen.
