Dedicated to the Weaving God

Located on a hill that dominates Yamashiro Onsen, this Shinto shrine is said to be dedicated to the god of weaving. The name of the shrine ‘Hatori’ is considered to be derived from ‘Hataori’, traditional weaving looms in Japan. In the shrine’s precinct stands a more than 200 year-old spectacular giant tree leading to stairs and the main pavilion above. The stone staircase is beautifully lit up in the evening. In summer the Yamashiro Daidengaku Festival is held at the foot of the shrine.
